Application of Robotics
With the advancement of technology, the field of robotics has had a major breakthrough. Robots are made with a wide variety of use cases that make them the ideal technology for the future. Soon, they will be everywhere, from your home to the roads, to shopping centres and even hospitals. Here are some of the main areas where robots are useful:
- Manufacturing – Under manufacturing, there are several branches that can function without human interference. This is where the robots come into use. Tasks like welding, packing and assembling can easily be done by robots, giving enough time for humans to manage the tasks that require the application of the mind.
- Healthcare – The field of robotics has made an enormous stride when it comes to the healthcare industry. They are available in every aspect of this industry, from maintaining records of patients to performing surgeries and developing medicines. They can do almost everything!
- Security – This is something that has not happened, but looks like it is in the near future. It is being proposed that human security guards be replaced by security robots that look like humans. This is a much safer option and puts no life at risk. They can also prove to be more efficient as they will be highly programmed to help against crimes like burglaries and violence.
- Space exploration – Space is a very dangerous space. Not everybody is safe there. Therefore, space institutions like NASA have come up with autonomous vehicles that will do the work of humans for them. One such example is Mars Rover, which was sent to Mars. It collects required pictures and sends them back to Earth for scientists to study.
The Future of Robots
Robots are sophisticated machines that possess the ability to populate our world. However, for them to be useful, it is essential that they become more self-sufficient. Usually, robots are programmed by humans to do the task at hand, but this cannot be the case every time as you do not want to give instructions for every activity. You will want them to learn it themselves.
A humanoid robot, Brett, taught himself how to solve children’s puzzles where you put small pegs in similar shaped holes. This was not programmed into the robot. It was learnt by the method of trial and error or reinforcement learning. This is a slow process as it can take a lot of time, but soon, robots will become self-sufficient machines that will start doing human tasks without human assistance.
Similarly, another robot that was four-legged was taught the behaviourism of dogs with the help of videos of actual dogs doing activities. Even though the robot had four legs, it took time to imitate the movements of the actual dog with the help of reinforcement learning.
By and large, we will soon be able to see the field of robotics do even more wonders because science, artificial intelligence (AI) and software are also advancing. Soon, robots will become smarter than humans and more self-sufficient. Even though this industry is relatively new, they have had an admirable amount of progress. Robots will be a part of every major industry and will be able to achieve those dreams that humans alone would never be able to.
